Hearing the geese fly over on a farm in the San Joaquin Valley and spending the summers in Yosemite Valley, Jan Scott grew up loving nature and the outdoors. Her interest focused in 1982 on birds after attending a local Audubon bird walk at Moss Landing. She was drawn not only to the birds but to the people who were willing to share their time and love of birds.
Jan got her BA at Fresno State with a major in mathematics and her MA in Education at University of San Francisco. After retirement from teaching math in the Carmel Unified School District she continues to teach for the district students in their homes when they are unable to attend school.
Also after retirement Jan began a new pursuit in watercolor painting (see below, and at left and right), mostly plein aire landscapes. Her paints go with her whenever she and her husband, Brian Weed, travel. They have one daughter and two grandchildren.
