About the event
Trip Leader: Amanda Preece, MAS staff and Birdability Captain. Description: This is a local favorite with a paved ADA accessible trail. Wintering waterfowl, which may include Hooded Mergansers, as well as passerines, such as Townsend's and Yellow-rumped Warblers, are in abundance. Weedy patches provide a variety of sparrows. We’ll take every opportunity to sit and listen in quiet areas to better learn our bird calls and songs. We will walk at a slow pace to better hear and locate birds. This trip is open to all levels of birders! Bring binoculars if you have them or note that you need binoculars when you RSVP. We have nice ones to lend out. Trip Difficulty: The total distance covered on this walk will not exceed 1/2 mile. The trails on this section are paved and maintain a low grade throughout.
What to wear: Dress in layers and wear a hat. It could be cool and breezy as well.
What to bring: Water, sunscreen and possibly a small chair that is easy to carry and helpful for sitting in quiet spots if needed.
Facilities: There are no bathrooms at this park.
Meet: 9:00 am at the Ohlone Trail acces point on Heron Ct Rd. Park along the road without blocking anyone’s driveway. Closest address is 12 Heron Ct, Watsonville, CA 95076. Google map link HERE.
