About the event

Description: Palo Corona Regional Park is located near the mouth of the Carmel Valley on an old golf course property. The golf cart paths are now trails and the grassy lawns are becoming grasslands as the area re-wilds itself. Over 200 species of birds have been reported at this park via eBird! https://ebird.org/hotspot/L1440295?m=4

We should be able to find nesting songbirds like Western Bluebird, Lesser Goldfinch, American Robin, and Black-headed Grosbeak, plus multiple raptor species like Red-shouldered Hawks, American Kestrel, and White-tailed Kites. Other expected species include Western Wood-Pewee, Nuttall’s Woodpecker, Warbling Vireo, four species of swallow, Wilson’s Warbler, and many more.

Meet: 1:00 PM at the flagpole at Palo Corona Regional Park. This park is free to the public, and there is ample parking in the main parking lot.

Trip Difficulty: We’ll traverse paved and unpaved trails, some which have a >5% slope. The trip will be approximately 1.5 miles in length.

Facilities: There are accessible bathrooms near the meeting spot at the flagpole.

What to bring: Sunscreen, hat, water, layers. Snacks and water are recommended if you get hungry fast! If you'd like to borrow binoculars, please indicate how many during the registration process.
