About the event

Appropriate for the week of Halloween, and not for the faint of heart. We'll search the beach looking for live shorebirds and seabirds, but will also teach informal anatomy and physiology lessons as carcasses allow. Del Monte beach is a good spot to find dead birds, which can be a good way to learn identification skills and observe fine details that often aren't visible through binoculars. Don't worry - participants will not be touching any carcasses! All levels of interest in birds and nature are welcome.

Potential species include whimbrels, cormorants, pelicans, gulls, and possibly loons and grebes!

Time and meeting: Meet at the volleyball court near the primary Del Monte Beach/Window on the Bay parking lot, located HERE.

Parking: For free parking, you can park across Del Monte Ave in the designated parking spaces around El Estero Park. Alternatively, you can pay for parking at the lot right at the beach, near the kayak store. The lot is called Monterey Bay Park (MB7) and it costs $1.50/hour.

What to bring: Sunscreen, hat, water, layers. Snacks and water are recommended if you get hungry fast! If you'd like to borrow binoculars, please indicate how many during the registration process.

If you have to cancel after having signed up, please email Amanda at amanda.preece@montereyaudubon.org to let us know!
